Rising action is where the story really gets going! It is the part of the story where you introduce the problems that the characters need to solve. Many stories actually begin with rising action and then feed in the Exposition retrospectively.⠀

The 5 stages of narrative can make a big difference to students' writing. The first stage of any story is Exposition. Students tend to see this as synonymous with beginning, but it means key information that we need to know at the start of a story in order to fully understand it.⠀
