Two Day GCSE English Language Revision Workshop
£50 for both days (Early bird offer £45 on spaces booked before February 28th)
Calling Year Ten and Eleven students and parents – get ready to succeed in GCSE English this year!
Would your child benefit from a small group revision class, where they can ask questions and work on strengthening their core English skills with a qualified secondary English teacher? If your child is struggling to develop reading and writing skills to the required standard, or if he/she needs additional challenge in order to reach higher grades, then this two-day revision workshop will leave them feeling confident, inspired and ready to tackle the GCSE English examination.
Over two days, we will explore the various components of the English Language examination. Day One will centre on reading skills. We will unpack the questions and in particular focus on what is meant by language and structure, and how students can address these areas in their answers. I will show students how to construct their answers so that they address the assessment objectives and provide a detailed response for the examiner. The session will cover both fiction and non-fiction, and we will also look at how to evaluate pieces of writing for meaning, as well as comparing them with each other.
Day Two will centre on writing skills. We will first focus on creative writing, looking at the ideal story structure and thinking about how to develop descriptions in more depth. Then we will move on to transactional writing, where we will unpick the different purposes, audiences and forms they may be required to write for. In both parts, there will also be a strong emphasis on how to plan a response, a crucial part of the writing process that is often overlooked by students.
The number of students in the group will be capped at five. This is to ensure that each student is given detailed attention and feedback from myself. Tasks for individual study will be set, and marked by myself (no separate charge – included in the price). If you are concerned about your child’s progress in English, this is a fantastic opportunity to secure additional support. I am a fully qualified teacher with many years of experience, both in classroom and small group teaching. I currently work with thirty students online and face to face. Check out just a small snapshot of the testimonials I have received:
“Jo has been amazing, patiently motivating and directing a typically grumpy teenage boy. Zoom is not the easiest medium to teach, but Jo has successfully taught my son, giving him the tools to achieve better grades and benefit from significant improvements in his English school work. Positive results, lovely personality, punctual, reliable and reasonably priced what more could a parent (or student) want?”
Tessie, Yr 10 Parent
“Jo was absolutely amazing in helping my daughter to get ready for her GCSE exams in English Language and Literature. I could see that Jo is an experienced teacher by the way she quickly established the areas my daughter needed the most help with and focused on those. As a result, in a matter of a few month she boosted my daughter’s confidence in the subject which had a positive effect on her grades. I’ve found Jo to be positive, reliable and organised. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who needs a tutor in English.”
Ludmila, Yr11 parent
